Day +3: Blogging by proxy
No not some new form of Munchausen's but as today has been a similar uphill stuggle Rory has asked me to write something for you on his behalf. It's the first day I haven't been able to visit so I'm pleased to be able to do at least this. Nausea and sickness have remained the problem, but they've increased the number of meds he's getting through the pump in the hope of getting it under control. He has managed one of those foul body builder milk shakes so possibly they are having some success, mind you the ice lolly defeated him so who knows? The side effect though is that he continues to be very drowsy. During one wakeful moment however he did manage a shower, important for infection control, and to move rooms! Not sure of the motivation but it brings him closer to the nurses station and I suspect the other transplant patients. He tells me that the fab view of London has been largely obscured by a flat roof although I somehow doubt that's a big deal right now. It seems that the neutropenia and the sickness have come on a little earlier than some might have expected, the hope is they will pass sooner and those precious stem cells do their engrafting sooner too. Rory and I have a 1 - 10 scale for how rank he's feeling, yesterday was an 8.5, today is 7.5; his temperature remains in normal bounds and most importantly he's still positive....if dopey. Please keep the comments coming, they really do make a difference. Love Nik

Greetings Rory,
I have at last worked out that I too am able to leave messages. Disappointed to have missed my chance yesterday, feel sure Athena posters would have snapped up the headphone opportunity ! You'll also be glad to know that you'll be able to retire early, Reuben and James put on an extra special show when i popped round to collect after swimming - James hums sections of Indiano Jones theme for about 10 seconds at a time and Reub fill the pause with a cracking "guff rip" on cue .... am entering them for Pontins summer season whether you like it or not! Keep up the fantastic story of events , it is written superbly, come on stemmies do your stuff... Mark
I'm with mark -- it's a terrific read. Wishing you all the best. Again.
Thanks Nikki for the Proxy Blog, lets hope this sickness passes soon and Rory will start feeling a bit better. Can Granny and Grandpa benefit from any success James and Reuben might have, it sounds very interesting and more important different! Mark perhaps you should contact Simon Cowell [you never know]
Perhaps a photograph of them in action should be on the blog. Hope you will be feeling a bit stronger today Rory and perhaps you will be back in action again this evening.Lots of positive thoughts and love from Dad and Mum
Hi Nikki, Thanks for the update. Looking forward to the blogs in which Rory holds onto his food. I have to do housework now..... so Rory it's not all fun out here :-)
Love, Chris & Sandra
Hi
Thanks for the proxy blog. We really look forward to them.
Shame about the view - although you are nearer the nurse's station so perhaps all is not lost on the view front!
Dad and I watched a fairly dire game of rugby yesterday Warriors v Bucheresti Oaks. At one point it looked as though we were going to be embarassed by the visitors from Romania but fortunately a few dodgy refereeing decisions and some good fortune saw us comfortably home in the end.
Hope you start feeling better today and able to give us an update later
Get grafting stemmies!!
love Iain
Thanks for the update Nikki, sorry to hear that Rory has lost his room with a view. We're all willing you through this tough patch and hoping those stemmies get on with the job soon.
Lots of love we're all right behind you metaphorically speaking!!!! All the J 'S
Hello Rory

((misplaced, found, now back where it is supposed to be - lara))
Hi Rory,
Hope I have managed to set things up properly and you actually receive this.
It's great to know that to date you appear to be coping with the sickness, let's hope it continues.
Your blog is great to read as we get a far better insight to what you are going through- full
marks.
Your comments regarding the Carry On films, leads me to ask - 'Where did they put the daffodil ?'
Seriously, AMIL and I are full of praise and admiration for the way you and Nicola are living through the whole situation.
Oh, by the way, thanks for allowing me a few days off, though it will be good when AMIL is back if only for Baxter's sake. He does like long walks.
Keep taking the pills. Look forward to seeing you soon.
AFIL
Hiya R&N,
Firstly, thanx Nikki for the update. Honestly, the things blokes will do to get a room nearer the nurses...!
Sending all positive vibes from Pimlico to encourage the stemmies to get their butts into gear and do the needful.
All the best, Lucy & Guy B
